This pilot has involved the employment of recent graduates to undertake specific business related short terms projects to meet identified business needs of social enterprises.

 

The overall aim of the pilot was to enable social enterprises to access skills and allow the short term graduates to work within a wide variety of organisations and thereby build their own business and project management skills.

Activity

Six graduates were placed in social enterprises on a short term basis (less than three months per placement supporting 64 projects within 42 social enterprises.. Ten graduates were recruited to support ten social enterprises on a long term basis (up to six months in one placement).

 

This pilot has provided social enterprises with project work in the following areas:

 

Marketing – research though to planning and implementation

ICT database development, web design, specific software programming and configuration, and management information systems.

development of human resource systems and support for iNvestors in People.

Quality control

Environment Management including ISO 14001

Other business needs

 

IT Graduate, Mohammed Munir (above) spent six months on the programme and supported a total of 18 social economy organisations offering a range of support - from database consultancy, website development and IT consultancy.

 

Mohammed said: "I really enjoyed the experience, it was fun. I've really benefited from the experience and wide range of tasks that I got involved in. It was a valuable experience and it's given me the opportunity to develop a portfolio of my work. The Grow Your Business with Graduates is a good programme and an excellent resource for te social economy organisations involved".
